Alex & the EBPC Potters!
Yamaaki – Toshio Kataoka, Tokoname, Japan.
An unglazed larger sized pot in a formal rectangular design, hand-made by Toshio Kataoka, of the Yamaaki kiln of Tokoname. Probably the most well known of Tokoname kilns, the Yamaaki kiln operated from 1926 to 2012.
This distinguished rectangular pot has an elegant yet commanding form, a generous planting depth, a graceful lip to the rim. There is banding to the base, and the pot sits on attractive stepped feet. The finish is of a high quality, and the pot enjoys refined details such as the raised boarder on the rim.
In excellent condition.
Stamped and signed by the artist - reads: 松泉焼 (Shosen baked), and 山秋 (Yamaaki). (Toshio Kataoka's 'potter name' was Shosen II, which is often confused with his father, Shosen. Koshosen is his brother).
External measurements (max): 40.5cm x 32.5cm x 12.6cm
Made by Toshio Kataoka, 'Yamaaki', Tokoname, Japan.
