Yamaaki – Toshio Kataoka, Tokoname, Japan. (Kiln closed 2011)
An XL unglazed pot in a deep rectangular design, by Toshio Kataoka of the legendary Yamaaki kiln of Tokoname. Probably the most well known of Tokoname kilns, the Yamaaki kiln operated from 1926 to 2011.
This distinguished rectangular pot has an elegant yet commanding form, with soft corners and a generous planting depth. The pot sits on attractive stepped feet, and is finished in a wonderful soft mottled texture, which has developed a rich over the decades.
The pot is overall is good condition. Minor chips are highlighted in the images, and reflected in the competitive price for a pot of this size and quality.
Stamped - reads: 山秋 (Yamaaki).
External measurements (max): 48.2cm x 36cm x 14.9cm
Made by Toshio Kataoka, 'Yamaaki', Tokoname, Japan.
* This pot came from a private collection, from whom we are advised the pots were all attained from Japan in the 1970's. *
* Please note: This pot is available only by collection - from a UK Exhibition, or from the 'pot house' (In Surrey) - by prior arrangement please. Many thanks.
