Alex & the EBPC Potters!
Yamaaki – 'Shosen' Akiji Kataoka, Tokoname, Japan.
A 21cm nanban style pot, handmade by the founder of the Yamaaki kiln, Akiji Kataoka, potter name: 'Shosen / Juudou'.
Shosen started the kiln in the 1920's and passed away 35 years ago, in 1990. The Yamaaki kiln is probably the most well-known of Tokoname kilns, and closed in 2012.
This fine example has an excellent (rarer) glazed finish - subtle, earthy and very complimentary to the clay. The glaze adds a richness and a hint of green/brown to the brown clay finish. Another nice touch are the 'shell imprint' that act as arches for better drainage. A beautifully crafted and very collectable piece.
In excellent condition.
Stamped and signed by the artist - reads: 松泉 (Shosen).
External measurements (max): 21cm x 4.8cm
Made by: Sadamitsu Kataoka, 'Koshosen', 'Yamaaki', Tokoname, Japan.
