Yamaaki – 'Koshosen' Sadamitsu Kataoka, Tokoname, Japan.
A 25cm nanban style pot, handmade by Sadamitsu Kataoka, 'Koshosen' (2nd generation) of the Yamaaki kiln.
Koshosen is the most highly celebrated of the 3 generations of the Yamaaki kiln. He was also officially honoured as a 'master' of his craft. The Yamaaki kiln is probably the most well-known of Tokoname kilns, and operated from 1926 to 2012.
This example has an excellent (rarer) glazed finish - subtle, earthy and very complimentary to the clay. The glaze adds a richness and a hint of green/brown to the brown clay finish. Another nice touch are the 'shell imprints' that act as arches for better drainage. A beautifully crafted and very collectable piece.
In excellent condition.
Stamped and signed by the artist - reads: 小松泉 (Koshosen).
External measurements (max): 28.5cm x 4.8cm
Made by: Sadamitsu Kataoka, 'Koshosen', 'Yamaaki', Tokoname, Japan.
