Alex & the EBPC Potters!
Toshio Kataoka, 'Yamaaki', Tokoname, Japan.
A large bag-style oval bonsai pot made by the Yamaaki of Tokoname, in a wonderful light blue 'Kinyo' glaze.
This fine piece has a great oval form, with the added interest of a 'bag style' lip. The pot has recessed feet and even the underside has a hand-carved recessed base detail.
The pot is finished in a magnificent light blue 'kinyo' glaze, with some pinhole pitting, as was common in the older glazes and adds a degree of character to the pot. The glaze is quite intricate upon closer inspection. The colour breaks from light blue to browns at the rim, and the pot also has a level of patination, which has accumulated over the decades.
Hand-signed and stamped by the artist.
Measures (External Max.): 45cm (width) x 34cm (width) x 9cm (height)
Made by: Toshi Kataoka 'Yamaaki', Tokoname, Japan.
