Suzuki SYUZAN, Japan (1928 - 1988)

An excellent smaller unglazed rectangle by Suzuki Syuzan; one of the world’s leading makers - as evidenced by the high percentage of his containers at Japan’s most prestigious shows. Syuzan is known as the best producer of Antique Chinese-influenced containers and imports the highest quality clays. His high level of craftsmanship is superb.

This piece has a sumptuous rich brown clay, with some added grog, giving it a slightly textured appearance. Features include: Recessed cloud style carved feet, lip to the rim, and basal band in relief. The pot has thin walls, is beautifully formed, and boasts exquisite attention to detail. Estimated to be at over 50 years old, amasingly, the pot has absolutely NO damage!
