Yamagata Kuroishi Suiseki with bespoke wooden Diaza.

A bold design Yamagata-ishi, (mountain stone), with bespoke wooden Daiza, from the private collection of the cherished late bonsai ceramics artist, Derek Aspinall.

The stone is a Kuro-ishi, or mostly black stone with snow cover to 2 faces. The Yamagata-ishi is a popular form of suiseki with collectors, and this stone represents one large distant mountain, with an intricate form.

The base of the stone has was cut to fit flat on the custom made wooden Daiza, which follows the curves of the stone. The Daiza has an artist's mark and has several protective felt pads.

External measurements: 20cm (l) x 14.7cm (w) x 11.2cm (h).

Daiza (Wooden base) measurements: 20.8cm (l) x 16cm (w) x 1.3cm (h).

This stone was a part of the late Derek Aspinall's private collection, and is being sold on behalf of his family.

* - Derek Aspinall was one of Europe's pioneering bonsai potters in the 1980's , and his works continued to be highly prized throughout his career. Aspinall unfortunately passed away over 20 years ago, however Aspinall pots are now some of the most collectable of European bonsai pots, and it is an honour to offer these historic pieces.
