'Figure' Kuro-ishi Suiseki with bespoke wooden Diaza.
A powerful statuesque suiseki viewing stone, with bespoke wooden Daiza, from the private collection of the cherished late bonsai ceramics artist, Derek Aspinall.
This 20cm tall Granite like viewing stone, has a magnificent rugged form, with impressive movement and detailed fissures, crevices, and textured weathered areas. The base of the stone is quite flat and sits onto it's custom made wooden Daiza base, which follows the curves of the stone. The Daiza has a taller profile, complimenting the stone's stature, and recesses carved into the platform to neatly hold the stone.
External measurements: 17.5cm (l) x 11cm (w) x 20cm (h).
Daiza (Wooden base) measurements: 19cm (l) x 11.5cm (w) x 4.3cm (h).
This stone was a part of the late Derek Aspinall's private collection, and is being sold on behalf of his family.
* - Derek Aspinall was one of Europe's pioneering bonsai potters in the 1980's , and his works continued to be highly prized throughout his career. Aspinall unfortunately passed away over 20 years ago, however Aspinall pots are now some of the most collectable of European bonsai pots, and it is an honour to offer these historic pieces.
