Aki-ishi Yamagata Suiseki viewing stone, with custom ceramic Diaza.
A Yamagata-ishi, (mountain stone) in striking Aki-ishi red and white, with bespoke wooden Daiza, from the private collection of the cherished late bonsai ceramics artist, Derek Aspinall.
The stone is a Aki-ishi, or red stone with varying snow cover. The Yamagata-ishi is a popular form of suiseki with collectors, and this stone represents one large distant mountain, with an intricate form.
The stone has diverse tones and the base of the stone seems to naturally be quite flat. A custom made ceramic Daiza base, which follows the contours of the stone, comes with the suiseki. The Daiza has a raised lip detail, brown finish to the platform, and cream sides. It was made by Derek Aspinall and bear's the artist's mark. The Daiza has some damage in 2 areas as shown.
External measurements: 16.5cm (l) x 12.5cm (w) x 7cm (h).
Daiza (Ceramic base) measurements: 17cm (l) x 13cm (w) x 2cm (h).
This stone was a part of the late Derek Aspinall's private collection, and is being sold on behalf of his family.
* - Derek Aspinall was one of Europe's pioneering bonsai potters in the 1980's , and his works continued to be highly prized throughout his career. Aspinall unfortunately passed away over 20 years ago, however Aspinall pots are now some of the most collectable of European bonsai pots, and it is an honour to offer these historic pieces.
