Alex & the EBPC Potters!
Yoshimura Shuhou, Tokoname, Japan.
A high-level exhibition quality pot made by the deceased founder of the Shuhou kiln, Yoshimura Kataoka. The form is a rare, deeper square semi-cascade design, and the pot is finished in a magnificent cream glaze with superior patination.
The pot has graciously curved walls, leading to a lip at the rim. For elegance purposes, the rim has a raised border detail, that follows the line of the incised corners. Even the underside of the pot has been hand carved to form a slightly recessed base. The pot is finished in a cream glaze with enviable levels of patination that have accumulated over the decades.
A very useable pot, and highly collectible. Some of Yoshimura's works are now becoming official antiques, as he founded his kiln in 1923.
Measures (External Max.): 39.5 cm (width) x 19.5 cm (height)
Made by: Yoshimura Katoako, 'Shuhou', Tokoname, Japan.
