A rarely seen and highly collectable forest-style slab pot by Akiji Kataoka - potter name 'Shosen' - the celebrated founder of Tokoname's famous Yamaaki kiln. Probably the most well known of Tokoname kilns, the Yamaaki kiln operated from 1926 to 2011.

This highly stylised slab style pot, has an elegant form and refined build, yet with rugged, textured walls. There is a large internal planting area, ample drainage holes, scratched surface grooves, and the artist added wire tie-down loops, with recessed wire grooves beneath.

The piece has an unglazed look, although there seems to be a glaze-type finish over the textured rock-like walls. The pot is excellent condition, with just one 'tie-down' loop missing, which is reflected in the competitive price.

Stamped and signed by the artist - reads: 十王堂 (Juudou).
