Alex & the EBPC Potters!
Englert Keramik (Germany)
With random flame-signatures from the wood-fired kiln of (Gafu-ten 2019) award-winning artist Martin Englert - is this superb 36cm oval bonsai pot, with an impressive organic finish, and incredible natural flame signatures. The well-formed medium iron body is crafted from rough Spanish clay, with a rustic and slightly textured finish. The pot was made for a tree and is not egotistical, but 'shibui' (Japanese aesthetic of simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty), with simple yet complementary recessed feet and smooth curves.
The pot is dressed in a light salt glaze, which, organically combined in the kiln with the glaze of melted ash deposits, resulted in this wonderful organic finish. The underside has Englert's signature drainage holes in a geometric design, and each piece is stamped by the maker and numbered.
External measurements: 36.3cm (l) x 31.6cm (w) x 9.2cm (h)

Award-winning artist! **Martin Englert was given the honor of being invited to participate in the prestigious 2019 Gafu-Ten ceramic competition and was awarded the silver medal in the category for painted bonsai pots.**
Englert Keramik bonsai pots are fired in a wood-fired kiln at temperatures of up to 1300°C (2370°F). The beauty of these pots is created by fire, ash and the kiln‘s turbulent atmosphere. The charm of this costly and exhausting technique is the natural beauty of the resulting surfaces. Not surprisingly wood-fired ceramics are deeply rooted in Japanese aesthetics. They are an example of artisanal tradition and the idealized beauty of nature - just like a bonsai.
