Alex & the EBPC Potters!
Kousen (deceased), Tokoname, Japan.
A rarely seen, high-quality oval from The Seika-en kiln, which operated in Tokoname during the Taisho era (1921 - 1926).
Handmade from a fine particle, dark 'kurodei' mix clay, the piece was meticulously burnished to this polished smooth finish. The oval form is simple, classic and very well executed. Low recessed feet and a slight return to the rim gives a rounded profile to this shibui pot, softening and reducing the formality of the pot.
The pot was made approximately 100 years ago and is in excellent condition.
Stamped by the artist.
Maximum measurements (External): 25.8cm x 18.8cm x 4cm.
SEIKA -EN, Tokoname, Japan.
* This pot came from a private collection, from whom we are advised the pots were all attained from Japan in the 1970's. *
