'Bonsai' – Matsushita Hiroyuki, Tokoname, Japan.
A 21.3cm nanban style pot, handmade to a deeper design and rugged aesthetic by Matsushita Hiroyuki, aka 'Bonsai'.
'Bonsai' is a highly regarded Tokoname artist. His unique style and finish of pots, which are fewer in production, out-value those of his brother Reiho. His texture clay and smooth finish add a wonderful rugged aesthetic to his pots. The pot has a generous planting depth, and was formed with banding to the body and a lip to the rim, which act to reduce the visual depth of the pot.
Hand-Signed by the artist - 凡 ('Bonsai' here is read: 凡才 - as opposed to 盆栽 the artform.)
External measurements (max): 21.3cm x 6.3cm
Made by: Matsushita Reiji, 'Reiho', Seizan kiln, Tokoname, Japan.
