Alex & the EBPC Potters!
Kimiko Matuei , Japan
A shohin sized unglazed oval in a graceful design, created with a feminine touch by Kimiko Matuei of Japan.
Born in 1929, Kimiko started creating bonsai ceramics in the 1970s, and trained under the great Hayashi Tojaku. Her work is not prolific, and remains in demand with collectors.
The pot has a 'fukurou' or bag style design, with an inverted fold below the rim. (picture a purse drawstring). This detail adds interest and formality to the design and also acts to make this pot seem visually less deep.
In excellent condition.
'Despite the rarity of her works, she is one of the most influential female bonsai potters of the 20th century' (Michael Ryan Bell - JapaneseBonsaiPots.Net)
Hand-signed & Stamped by the artist - reads: 喜美子. (Kimiko)
External measurements (max): 14.7cm x 12cm x 3.4cm
Made by: Kimiko Matuei , Japan.
