Alex & the EBPC Potters!
'Kaiyou'. Watanabe Kazunori, Tokoname, Japan.
A beautifully formed, 40cm mokko-shaped pot by the popular Tokoname potter, Watanabe Kazunori, better known by his potter name, 'Kaiyou.
This good-sized mokko is made from a quality Tokoname clay to great proportions, and with generous depth, and has a beautiful form with soft curves and true lines. The feet are recessed and are nicely balanced to the design, and a lip to the rim. The pot enjoys other refined details such as the recessed underside panel, and the subtle raised outer rim detail.
The superb colours and finish is actually a glaze, sprayed on, to appear as Udei. Udei is a grey clay that is very popular in bonsai, and is said to be the only clay colour that can compliment every species of tree. This pot will suit anything from conifers, to azalea or prunus, to deciduous broad leaf trees.
Stamped by the artist.
External measurements: (Max) 40.5cm (length) x 33.5cm (w) x 12.1cm (height).
