KEIZAN - Sadao Hisada (deceased), Tokoname, Japan.

A well formed unglazed oval, or soft cornered rectangle, handmade (believed to be in the 1970s), by the founder of the Keizan kiln, and teacher of the great Nakano Gyouzan.

This 40cm oval was made from a quality blend of Tokoname clays, with warm soft flecks throughout the lighter brown clay. Beautifully formed in an elegant yet commanding design, the pot sits on recessed feet, and has relief banding to the base and rim, which visually suggests a lower depth than it offers the tree.

The pot is overall is good condition. Minor chips are highlighted in the images, and the competitive price reflects these.

Keizan Hisada, real name Sadao Hisada, born 1930, founded the Keizan kiln in 1951, and was one of Tokoname's earlier and most highly respected bonsai ceramists.
