Itou Gekkou - Japan.

A highly collectible painted porcelain pot by the great Itou Gekkou of Japan.

This vintage porcelain oval was hand-made and expertly painted in sometsuke, a traditional cobalt blue underglaze. The Sansui (land and sea scape) scenes are painted with incredibly fine detail, with a great feeling of depth and excellent use of negative space. The pot is in perfect condition, yet has seen decades of use, as evidenced by the enviable build up of patina.

Pots by Itou Gekkou are increasingly hard to come by, with collectors hoarding them. This is a great opportunity to acquire an excellent vintage example, at a very competitive price.
