Alex & the EBPC Potters!
Harumatsu Rokumisai, Japan. (1917-2005)
A large vintage unglazed oval, in a bold traditional design by Haramatsu Rokumizu.
Made by the famous Harumatsu kiln, of the Tosui line, this deeper profile unglazed oval has a good planting depth and bold design. The pot is made from a quality shidei purple clay and is well-formed with excellent details. The pot sits on recessed feet, with a basal band in relief, and is decorated with a dual row of studs/rivets, and a Chrysanthemum motif in relief to each front.
The pot has been happily used for decades and is in good condition. There is a slight crack to one of the chrysanthemum motifs, as can be seen from picture 5, and the pot has a wonderful patination developing.
Stamped and hand-signed by the artist. This chop is unique to Rokumizu. The signature (on the left) is that of Rokumisai, and some extra script to the right has also been added.
Measures (External Max.): 37cm (width) x 30cm (width) x 12cm (height)
Made by: Harumatsu Rokumisai, Seto, Japan.
