A Hagi ware chawan / tea bowl in a raindrop glaze made by Watanabe Eisen, and from the collection of famous UK bonsai ceramist: Bryan Albright.
This 13cm chawan was made from a white clay and embodies many of the typical features of Hagi ware, including the Kiri Kodai / cut foot ring, and the slight pitting and crazing of the glaze. With a slightly porous nature, tea is slowly absorbed, causing the glaze color to deepen and change. This natural process of aging is highly appreciated by tea masters and collectors.
Eisen Watanabe (渡辺栄泉), also known by his artist name Soryuan, (宗流庵) is an acclaimed contemporary artist, highly regarded for his mastery of the traditional Hagi ware ceramic style.
Stamped by the artist.
