Gramming Pot – Wood-fired 'kirinuki' pot.

A 'kirinuki' built rectangle, meaning the artist carved this entire pot from a single block of porcelain.

Porcelain is known as a difficult material to work with, and kirinuki is generally reserved for some of the greatest of Japanese potters (e.g. Wajaku, Fujikake Yuzan, Kamiya Ryuen).

This pot is a great design for small shohin, with good depth, incised corners, carved feet, and nice lip to the rim. The magic comes with the glaze changes, flame signatures and natural ash glaze and deposits.

The wonderful warm colour variations are due to expert positioning and control of the wood fired kiln.
