Alex & the EBPC Potters!
Derek Aspinal - England. (Not an EBPC member)
A rare and extremely beautiful 54cm oval made by the most collectible of deceased U.K. potters. Derek Aspinall was a pioneer of bonsai ceramics in Europe, he was an inspiration to many of today’s ceramists. His work are now highly sought after.
Aspinal pots tend to have slight dents as the lime in clay was often not finely mixed and therefore tiny pieces sometimes ‘pop’ or later allow minor chipping. This piece fortunately has only a couple of these as highlighted in the pictures and is generally in great condition.
This beautiful larger sized oval is a great example of Aspinal’s work. Precision is key and the pot has great form and is finished in natural hues of light blue/grey, with browns and a blush of pastel pink.
An excellent collector's piece and a very useable pot.
Stamped by Derek Aspinal.
External measurements: (Max) 54cm (length) x 37.1cm (width) x 5.7cm (height).
Made by: Derek Aspinal - England.
Aspinal pots are now some of the most sought after pots in European bonsai pottery. Derek was one of the first, and many would say one of the greatest Western potters to date. As an engineer by trade, Derek was very meticulous - his pots are superbly true to form and well-constructed. He unfortunately passed away around 15 years ago.
