Alex & the EBPC Potters!
Derek Aspinal - England. (Not an EBPC member). ** COLLECTION ONLY **
A rare and extremely beautiful 52.5cm oval made by one of the most collectible of European potters. Derek Aspinall was a pioneer of bonsai ceramics in the U.K., and remains an inspiration to many of today’s European ceramists. Derek sadly passed away over 2 decades ago, and his work are now highly sought after.
Aspinal pots tend to have slight dents as the lime in clay was often not finely mixed and therefore tiny pieces sometimes ‘pop’ or later allow minor chipping. This piece is one of the very few I have seen without any of these. The minor limescale residue can easily be removed, but the pot is in excellent condition.
This beautiful deeper style oval is a great example of Aspinal’s work. Precision is key and the pot has great form and is finished in natural hues of light green qand browns, with darker brown relief banding.
An excellent collector's piece and a very useable pot.
Stamped by Derek Aspinal.
External measurements: (Max) 52.5cm (length) x 37.4cm (width) x 8.8cm (height).
Made by: Derek Aspinal - England.
* Please note: Due to the pot's size and historic importance, it is only available by collection from the EBPC (Epsom, Surrey), or at a bonsai exhibition (by prior arrangement please).
