Alex & the EBPC Potters!
Bigei, Hirata Atsumi, Tokoname, Japan
A good shown sized pot excellent nice shape and finish, by the famous and now retired Tokoname artist, Hirata Atsumi, aka Bigei.
The good sized shohin pot has a formal ‘rinka’ or flower shaped design, with the ‘sword’ detail, and is made from Bigei’s famous vermillion red clay, which has been burnished to a smooth finish.
Although this pot is NOT marked / stamped in any way, it is unmistakably the clay, work and finish of Bigei .. artists are only human and can forget to stamp a pot. The lack of stamp makes it a more interesting piece in my opinion.
