Kataoka Akitsugu (Juodo-Shosen) 片岡秋次 (十王堂松泉) - Yamaaki 山秋 first generation. Tokoname, Japan.
An excellent example of a 'mushikui' (虫喰い), or 'bug bitten' textured oval by the founder of the famed Yamaaki kiln (opened by this artist in the 1920's and closed in 2011).
This beautiful oval is made from 'Shidei', or 'purple clay', and has a great design, with integrated feet, a gentle curve to the walls, and very useable proportions. The pot's body is adorned with exquisite mushikui, or bug-eaten detailing, which was first created, and made famous by this artist. This mushikui detail gives a degree of texture and ruggedness to the refined form.
In excellent condition for a pot with such age. Stamped and hand-signed by the artist. Juudou is now long deceased and was one of Tokoname’s leading bonsai ceramists. His works are now increasingly collectible.
External measurements: (Max) 32.5cm (length) x 25cm (width) x 9.5cm (height).
