Alex & the EBPC Potters!
Ikkou (Kazuhiro Watanabe), Tokoname
A larger vintage pot, with patina from decades of use, made by one of the older true greats of Tokoname - Kazuhiro Watanabe - aka ‘Ikkou’.
This is a fine soft cornered rectangle, which you can feel is of higher quality than most good Tokoname pots. Thinner walls, a thin base, excellent build, refined finish and an exquisite version of the classic antique Kinyo glaze, subdued by decades of patina. The pot is approximately 30 to 40 years of ag and is in very good condition!
This popular artist was not as productive as Koyo, but his pots command similar or higher prices. His shohin pots of this quality sell for twice (+) an average shohin Koyo pot. (I have sold many!) and his unglazed shudei shohin pots are very popular in exhibitions. He also did some collaborations with the great painters including Itou Gekkou, which are highly prized pots. (see my Expo ‘Itou Gekkou’ pot display!)
Stamped by the artist.
External measurements: 39.2cm x 28.3cm x 7.8cm.
